This course can be completed through Avenue to Learn (our online learning management system) starting in August. WHMIS training delivers the necessary information to employees through labels on containers of hazardous products, MSDS’s and worker training program. Otherwise, you will receive a message stating that you have failed the requisite requirements for these courses. This WHMIS policy was developed in accordance with the University’s directive on health and safety and to ensure compliance with Ontario Occupational Health and Safety regulations. If you are enrolling in any of the following courses, BIOLOGY 1A03, 2EE3, 2L03, ISCI 1A24, you will be required to complete BIOSAFE 1BS0. The course must be completed by any students, staff or faculty participating in a biology lab involving risk group 1 biological agents, such as cells, tissue cultures, bacteria, viruses, blood/bodily fluids, untested mammals that may harbour zoonotics, or any of the biological material rated as risk group 1 by Public Health Agency Of Canada or the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. This course is a co-requisite for all laboratory courses (i.e. It will teach you basic laboratory safety. The pre-requisite for the U/G practical is the underground orientation theory.WHMIS 1A00 is an online, non-credit Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Health and Safety course. This program is required to be completed before an employee can perform any underground work. Underground Orientation is valid for a period of 2 years.

Pre-requisite for Underground Orientation is a valid NORCAT Contractor Card (General Orientation) and WHMIS. NORCAT will build orientation programs to suit company and site specific requirements. There is a 40-question Final Test at the end of this course, which requires a grade of 80% in order to pass. This course takes approximately 2 hours to complete. General Orientation is valid for a 2-year period. Pre-requisite for General Orientation is Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training dated within one year. Proof of training must be carried at all times when working on company projects. Please note all payments are made through the HUB located on the main floor of the Shuniah Building.Ĭontractors entering onto company property must successfully complete the site orientation program delivered by NORCAT.
